That’s just what we wanted to dive into below. We wanted to showcase three songs that became popular because of their association with the wall-crawling web-slinger. Indeed, these are three songs made famous by the Spider-Man comic book franchise.
“Vindicated” by Dashboard Confessional from ‘Music from And Inspired by Spider-Man 2’ (2004)
This might be the apex of emo music. In the 2000s, there was no movie franchise more successful than the Spider-Man series starring Tobey Maguire. The films helped to pave the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the years to come. So, to feature a band like Dashboard Confessional and a singer like Chris Carrabba on the second movie’s soundtrack was something special. In the aughts, emo had a moment. My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy were racing up the charts. But it was Dashboard Confessional who made a splash via the Spider-Man franchise with their song “Vindicated”.
“Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee from ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ (2018)
More recently, the animated Spider-Man films focusing on Miles Morales have become all the rage. The films are vivid and lush, and each of the two so far has featured indelible soundtracks. Perhaps the most famous song to rise from those offerings is the one by Post Malone and Swae Lee. Indeed, “Sunflower” is one of those tracks you feel like you’ve heard 1,000 times already. It’s familiar and lovely. You want to sing along with it, even if you don’t know all the words.
“Spider-Man” by Paul Francis Webster and Bob Harris (Single, 1967)
The O.G. This song kicked it off in the 1960s, proving that Spider-Man can be synonymous with song. Since the 1960s, this theme has been sampled, covered, and played over and over again, from dance clubs to television sets. It’s a track we all know the lyrics to. It’s one that has inspired new music now for decades—including, of course, the two songs on this list above.
