April 11 New Single Releases

“Henry, Come On” — Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey teased this new release last year on social media, and it’s finally here. For “Henry, Come On”, she continues in the direction she went for Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. It’s light, airy, and emotive, but she goes with a subtle acoustic guitar sound backed by intermittent piano. This is allegedly keeping with her promises to release a country album, but we’ll see how that plays out in the future.

“Valid Victorian” — Crumbsnatchers

Knoxville, Tennessee outfit Crumbsnatchers have just released their newest single “Valid Victorian”. Produced with Jared Corder, who worked with Nashville-based band New Translations on their recent debut, “Valid Victorian” was recorded in a single day, which bolsters its sense of urgency and fast-paced nature. Frontman Guetts Guetterman described it as “a cathartic song about owning your time and being present […] No frills, just authenticity.”

Genre-blending country darling Shaboozey has teamed up with pop sensation Myles Smith for “Blink Twice”, a lyrically confessional single embroidered with 2010s folksy sensibility. It leans a little bit melodically Lumineers with the fading-in guitar and rhythmic clapping. Essentially, “Blink Twice” is a dose of nostalgia in a brand new release, which goes with the vibe of the lyrics: “Time flies so don’t blink twice.

“Sensible” — Sports Team

Gearing up for the release of their newest album Boys These Days, Sports Team has dropped the new single “Sensible”. It’s an upbeat, jazzy commentary on modern wealth and complacency, with the band using their signature blend of instrumental styles to disguise the bleakness. Sports Team is looking down the barrel of a spectacular album full of genre-bending hits that keep on hitting.

More New Releases From the Past Week

“Adam & Steve” — Man/Woman/Chainsaw

Man/Woman/Chainsaw debuted with the EP Eazy Peazy last November, and I’ve personally been patiently waiting for their next project. “Adam & Steve” takes a turn from the rowdy chaos of Eazy Peazy but keeps the band’s whimsy strong, which is bolstered by their unique addition of a prominent violin.

“Everybody’s Trying To Figure Me Out” — HAIM

Sister trio HAIM is back with their newest single “Everybody’s Trying To Figure Me Out”, and fans have already predicted a HAIM Summer this year. This new single is more of what we’ve come to love from the trio but with a renewed sense of self-awareness and hope.

“Problem” — The Pill

If you haven’t heard Isle of Wight duo The Pill yet, you’re severely missing out. Their distorted, chaotic, tongue-in-cheek songs are powerful yet mocking, hilarious yet addressing real-world issues that women face every day. “Problem” gives us more of The Pill’s signature cute-but-thrashy style that makes them so unique.

“CUNTISSIMO” — MARINA

Marina is gearing up to release her latest album, Princess Of Power, on June 6 and has dropped a series of singles in preparation. Her latest, “CUNTISSIMO”, is reminiscent of “How To Be A Heartbreaker” from 2012 but with high-end sensibilities and a particular richness that sets this era of Marina on a new level.

“Lost And Found” — Skunk Anansie

Skunk Anansie originally debuted this single live in March, but have now officially released it along with two others. The 90s rock legends are leaning into more subtle instrumentation on “Lost And Found” which lets Skin’s vocals shine. This new single will be featured on their upcoming album The Painful Truth, which comes out on May 23.

“Spike Island” — Pulp

Pulp is back with the new single “Spike Island” from their upcoming album More, out on June 6. This is the iconic band’s first album in 24 years, so of course, I’m texting every Pulp fan I know. “Spike Island” is a delightful taste of nostalgia and new beginnings in one, produced by James Ford, who works with Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines D.C.
