From an early age, the parents of Alfa Anderson knew she loved music. At just three years old, she composed her first song. The years that followed watched Anderson continue to explore a career in music. Anderson eventually found her way into the band Chic. Taking over for Norma Jean Wright, the singer had worked with Chic before on their debut albums. And over the years, Chic was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 11 times. Sadly, the former singer of Chic passed away at 78 years old.

While continuing to explore music even after Chic, Anderson never lost her love for singing and performing. On December 17th, news broke that the singer sadly passed away. Although details surrounding her death have not been released, Nile Rodgers, who helped form Chic took a moment to pay tribute to the singer. He wrote, “Rest in power Alfa Anderson. Thank you for everything.”
Gaining over 7,000 likes, fans also took a moment to honor Anderson. “Awww man, another one of the key figures in the Chic organization has gained her wings. What a soulful and sensual voice and beautiful presence.”
Alfa Anderson Went From The Stage To School
Outside of the music industry, Anderson sought to inspire future generations as she worked at the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice High School. Serving as the principal at the time, the school also wrote a touching tribute to the singer. “With deep love and gratitude, the El Puente Family remembers and honors Alfa Anderson who joined the Ancestors on December 17th. Alfa was not only an amazing artist and founding member of the iconic disco group “Chic” – but also a dedicated and gifted educator who was a leading staff member of the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice.”
Detailing the type of person Anderson was, the school continued, “During her tenure, Alfa inspired and transformed the lives of our young people and community with her profound grace, wisdom, artistry and indomitable spirit. We thank you dear Alfa and may you continue to dance with the angels with eternal peace and power.”
