Legendary Australian Country Singer Chad Morgan Dead at 91

Growing up in the home of musicians, Chad Morgan found himself the eldest of 14 children. Never dreaming about a career in the music industry, the singer ended up cutting timber for a job. But thanks to a dare, Morgan produced a career in country music that spanned over seven decades. Throughout that time, he released albums like Chad Charms and the Birds and Double Decker Blowflies. His last album to release was back in 2021 with Quarantined. Sadly, on January 1st, the country music legend passed away at 91 years old.

Known as the “Sheik of Scrubby Creek”, the news of Morgan’s passing hit headlines when his son, Chad Jr. and daughter Janelle, broke the news. According to his son, the country singer passed away at the hospital in Queensland. None of the remaining family members disclosed what caused Morgan to pass away.

Having such an impact on country music, fellow singer Troy Cassar-Daley took a moment to remember his friend. He shared on Facebook, “Just want to pay my respects to Chad Morgan after his passing on New Year’s Day, a true country icon who was one of the funniest comedy minds I’ve ever witnessed on stage. He was always such an individual that’s what endeared him to so many in our industry. The last show is over old mate and the curtains are now closed always leaving them wanting more.” The singer ended his post with, “Rest Easy Chad.”

Chad Morgan Lands In Country Music Over A Dare

Although leaving behind a legacy in country music, Morgan first found success thanks to a radio contest. Entering Australia’s Amateur Hour radio program, the singer was dared by friends. And according to the star, “Never dare me to do anything. I got into the semi-finals and I had to go to Sydney for that … when I did the show down there, someone from the record company heard me and they offered to record me … all my life that was my one ambition, was to record for [country label] Regal Zonophone.”

Morgan’s last performance was back in April 2024 when he announced his retirement. Thrilled about what he accomplished in the spotlight, he songs will carry his legacy throughout generations to come.
