While CD sales used to be the measure of an artist’s success, today that has transformed into digital downloads and streaming numbers. With that in mind, the importance of raking in Spotify followers and listeners can’t be overstated.
Keep reading for the nine artists who have managed to reach the major milestone.
Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande boasts more than 103 million followers on Spotify. This month, she’s raked in nearly 84 million listeners, but that’s not her record. Back in January, amid Grande’s awards season push for her movie, Wicked, Grande nabbed more than 123 million listeners. Her top tracks on the streamer include “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” “One Last Time,” and “Seven Rings.”
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish‘s 107.5 million Spotify followers certainly love to stream her music. In February, Eilish has more than 107 million listeners. Eilish’s prime numbers can be attributed to her recent GRAMMYs performance, and the runaway success of her current single, “Birds of a Feather.” Her top songs on the platform are “Birds of a Feather,” “Wildflower,” and “Chihiro.”
Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars is sitting pretty with nearly 68 million followers on Spotify. His monthly listener count is more than double that at 150 million. His and Lady Gaga’s popular track, “Die With a Smile” is surely part of the reason for his Spotify success. In addition to that duet, “APT.” and “Just the Way You Are” are some of Mars’ most popular tracks on the streamer.
Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber‘s nearly 81 million Spotify followers are currently responsible for 82 million streams of the artist. He’s had higher numbers, before though. Back in December, Bieber toted more than 101 million monthly listens. “Love Yourself,” “Sorry,” and “Ghost” are Bieber’s most popular Spotify tracks.
Kendrick Lamar
Riding off the high of a successful performance during the Super Bowl halftime show, Kendrick Lamar‘s Spotify numbers have never been better. With nearly 38 million followers, Lamar currently has just upwards of 100 monthly listens. “Luther,” which he recorded with SZA, and the Drake diss track “Not Like Us” are among Lamar’s top songs.
Lady Gaga
Like Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga is feeling the success of “Die With a Smile” on Spotify. She’s earned almost 35 million followers on the platform and upwards of 123 million monthly listens. On top of the duet, Gaga listeners frequently play tracks including “Abracadabra” and “Poker Face.”
Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey only has 11 million followers on Spotify and 27 million current monthly listeners. Her inclusion on the list, however, is all thanks to “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The holiday favorite helped Carey reach just over 100 million monthly listeners in December. When listeners aren’t getting into the festive spirit with Carey, they’re listening to tracks including “Obsessed” and “We Belong Together.”
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift boasts more than 132 million followers on the platform. Though she only has 87 million monthly listeners at present, last May she counted upwards of 113 million. That timing is right smack dab in the middle of her popular Eras Tour and one month after the release of her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. “Cruel Summer,” “Fortnight,” and “Lover” are Swift’s top Spotify streams.
The Weeknd
The Weeknd‘s 100 million Spotify followers pales in comparison to his nearly 126 million current streams on the platform. “Timeless,” “One of the Girls,” and “São Paulo” are among The Weeknd’s biggest songs.
