Fyre Festival 2 couldn’t be another scam, right? Amid news that the infamous Fyre Festival is set to return, questions are being raised about the event’s legitimacy.

Tickets to Billy McFarland’s latest venture recently went on sale. At the same time, the festival’s location was announced as Isla Mujeres, a Mexican island. The problem? Officials on Isla Mujeres aren’t aware of any such event.
“We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it,” Edgar Gasca, from the tourism directorate of Isla Mujeres, told the Guardian. “For us, this is an event that does not exist.”
While that is a shock in some ways, it’s what many expected out of Fyre. After all, the first round of the musical festival landed McFarland a multi-year jail sentence for fraud.
Details About Fyre Festival 2
After getting out of prison in 2022, McFarland decided to make a comeback.
“Fyre 2 is real. My dream is finally becoming a reality,” McFarland told Today in February of the second iteration of the festival, which is purported to be held from May 30 to June 2.
Despite McFarland hyping up the festival and selling tickets for up to $1.1 million, no performers have been announced as of yet.
“We’re going to have artists across electronic, hip hop, pop and rock,” McFarland claimed. Fyre 2 will be about more than music, though. On its website, Fyre 2 is described as “an electrifying celebration of music, arts, cuisine, comedy, fashion, gaming, sports, and treasure hunting.”
“We might have a professional skateboarder do a demonstration,” McFarland told Today. “We might have an MMA champion teach you techniques in the morning.”
As for why attendees would trust a McFarland-hosted festival again, he told the outlet that he’s brought on companies to handle logistics, which were an all-disaster the first time around.
“Fyre 2 really isn’t about the past, and it’s not really about me. It’s about taking the vision, which is strong,” he said. “… I think it’s always a risk. You’re taking a risk because I made a lot of bad decisions and messed up the first festival. Until it’s experienced, there is a risk component to it.”
