“We Made the Right Person Famous”: Megan Moroney Helps Clean up Confetti After Hometown Show

With her smoky vocals and bedazzled sorority-girl aesthetics, Megan Moroney is writing her place in country music history. Catchy, relatable tunes like “Tennessee Orange” and “Am I Okay?” have brought her chart success, thousands of fans, and, most recently, the CMA’s New Artist of the Year title. Currently, Moroney is crossing the country on her headlining Am I Okay? Tour. And during one stop, the “Girl in the Mirror” singer even took the time to help clean up after herself.

“Anybody Got a Spare Broom?”

Unsurprisingly, a Megan Moroney show involves a lot of confetti. On Friday, April 4, the University of Georgia alum brought her “emo cowgirl” brand of country to her college stomping grounds at Akins Ford Arena in Athens.

After Moroney, 27, played her final song, she was watching the venue staff clean up mounds of confetti off the floor. “I feel like we should go help them,” she says in a video posted to Instagram.

Sprinting to the court in a bedazzled Bulldogs jersey, Moroney calls out, “Anybody got a spare broom?”

“I’m here to help,” she announces before getting to work. (Actually, she very nearly twists her ankle first, but manages to recover.)

Eventually, she upgrades from a small broom to a ride-on floor cleaner. “Anytime I’m in town,” she calls out, “I’ll give you a call and I’ll just,” trailing off as she makes a sharp turn.

“A Woman of the People”

Afterwards, Megan Moroney shared the behind-the-scenes footage to social media. The post gained more than 176,000 likes, with many fans commenting that it reaffirmed their respect for the “Break It Right Back” singer. “We made the right person famous,” one remarked.

“A woman of the people,” another chimed in. Fellow pop-country sensation Dasha playfully referred to the star as “megan zambroney.”

Certainly, it was a gracious way to cap off the first of Moroney’s two-night run in Athens. She takes the stage again Saturday (April 5) at 8 p.m. Eastern. Maybe this time she’ll bring a bigger broom.
