‘American Idol’ Standout John Foster Has Carrie Underwood Feeling Like a “Proud Mom”

Making his way into the Top 10 on American Idol, John Foster has quickly become a favorite on the show. With each passing week, the singer seemed to only get better even as the competition heated up. Appearing to handle himself with ease as millions watched each week, Foster also caught the eye of Carrie Underwood after he decided to perform Randy Travis’ hit song “I Told You So.” It just so happened that Underwood covered the song on her 2007 album Carnival Ride. When speaking about watching Foster on the stage, Underwood insisted she felt like a “Proud Mom.”

Although wanting to help each singer progress through the competition, Underwood had a soft spot for Foster, who she revealed reminded her of her own children with husband Mike Fisher. Speaking with People, the hitmaker said, “I feel like he kind of reminds me of my oldest son. When he’s over there singing to me, I kind of feel like a proud mom. He’s very good.”

Why John Foster Decided To Perform “I Told You So” On ‘American Idol’

Looking back to his performance of “I Told You So”, Foster knew about the history of the song an how Underwood once covered it. Although feeling the pressure, the singer quickly found his groove and even ended the song, tipping his hat to Underwood. Discussing the moment, Foster admitted, “The fact that she was sitting there on the panel… the pressure was on. She has such a great version of the song but I knew that I had to sing to her and I knew that I had to let America know my passion for the song and music by connecting with her.”

While gaining praise from Underwood, Foster still has a way to go before becoming the next American Idol. Sitting in the Top 10, he will need to beat out Josh King, Jamal Roberts, Mattie Pruitt, Thunderstorm Artis, Slater Nalley, Gabby Samone, Canaan James Hill, Kolbi Jordan, and Breanna Nix.

With Foster performing classic hits and even a song he wrote himself, “Tell That Angel I Love Her”, the singer continued to showcase his talents when it came to the stage and songwriting. Don’t miss Foster on American Idol, airing Sunday and Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
