The Best of Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp’s ‘Sunday Lunch’ YouTube Performances

Every Sunday at 12 p.m. BST, husband and wife duo Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox upload a YouTube video to their Sunday Lunch series, recorded in their kitchen. There, they often give wacky, befuddling performances of classic hits, entertaining viewers and fans. Often accompanied by a revolving door of musician friends, the two started the series in 2020 and have continued regular uploads.

With the news of Fripp’s sudden heart attack last month, he and Willcox are pausing their uploads for now. They will return after Fripp has time to rest and recover from multiple surgeries. However, fans can still go back through the archives and enjoy their videos. Here are just a few of their best videos from Sunday Lunch.

“Barracuda”

In this video, Willcox, Fripp, and masked guitar player Sidney Jake perform a cover of Heart’s “Barracuda”. Willcox is dressed as a mermaid, flipping her tail and waving her arms while balancing on a kitchen stool. Behind her, Robert Fripp plays guitar, dressed in a vest printed with dragonflies. Willcox unleashes powerful, operatic vocals after the intro, seemingly swimming in mid-air.

“Breaking the Law”

Willcox opened this cover from 2021 dressed as a sexy police officer, complete with a fake badge and mirrored sunglasses. She was joined once again by Sidney Jake, dressed appropriately like a cartoon’s idea of a prison inmate, and Robert Fripp in a dapper yellow vest. The guitars rang through the kitchen, creating a wall of sound that Willcox’s strong vocals cut through easily. Fripp took the chorus on this one, reciting “Breaking the law, breaking the law” in an almost-monotone while Willcox pretended to bonk him on the head with her baton.

“Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)”

For this video from 2024, Fripp and Willcox painted their faces in a style reminiscent of David Bowie and performed “Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)”. The two performed this one by themselves, with Fripp front and center, demonstrating his guitar prowess. Willcox stayed close behind him, belting the lyrics to the Bowie classic in their kitchen. What’s fun about this one is that Robert Fripp actually contributed guitar work to the 1980 album. This video truly comes full circle.
