Megan Moroney is building a lucrative career off oversharing about her personal life. Her first two albums, 2023’s Lucky and last year’s Am I Okay?, are full of confessional witticisms, including songs like “Tennessee Orange” and “No Caller ID.” Taking a break from her headlining Am I Okay? Tour, the CMA Award-winning artist recently attended the opening of her aptly-named Nashville pop-up bar, The Emo Cowgirl. And those VIP guests certainly got to know Moroney a little better.

The up-and-coming country star has given the L27 rooftop bar at The Westin Hotel in Nashville a rhinestones-and-ribbon makeover for her latest creative endeavor. Performing a medley of hits like “Bless Your Heart” and “Man on the Moon,” Moroney reflected on her first time in the high-rise space.
“I was really drunk when I got up on the elevator,” the University of Georgia alum said as she recalled “faceplanting” following one too many drinks. “I didn’t eat lunch that day,” she added.
Letting fans in a little closer, Moroney revealed that the person who inspired her 2024 song “Break It Right Back” was with her that day. She then launched into a live performance of the hit track.
Moroney’s Emo Cowgirl bar, which she curated herself, is open through Aug. 31, operating 10 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and extending those hours to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The menu includes cocktails with names inspired by Moroney’s lyrics, with a spicy margarita appropriately dubbed “The Spicy Meg.”
Megan Moroney Talks New Music: ”It’s Hard To Be Sad When Life Is Going This Well”
They don’t call her the “Emo Cowgirl” for nothing. Megan Moroney built her brand on tearjerkers like, well, “Sad Songs for Sad People.” However, a successful tour with Kenny Chesney last summer followed by a 50-date headlining tour of her own has thrown somewhat of a wrench in her tried-and-true songwriting format.
“I feel like, you know, it’s hard to be sad when life is going this well,” Moroney told Entertainment Tonight. “So the emo cowgirl is still emo-cowgirling, but just significantly less.”
On the red carpet at May’s ACM Awards, the “Indifferent” songstress, 27, told People that her third studio album “is probably like 80 percent written.” She has described the material as “lighter” than her previous work.
