Whether or not your mom grew up in the 1960s and 1970s during the height of what would later be known as classic rock, we bet she has an appreciation and an affinity for the musical style. We bet she’s driven down her fair share of highways listening to buzzy guitars, brash vocalists, and the music from the culture-changing decades in the middle of the 20th century.

Below, we wanted to explore that very fact. We wanted to highlight three classic rock songs from back in the day that we bet your mom has an affinity for. These three songs would earn a mom’s smile if they came on the stereo, the radio, or the overhead speakers at her favorite restaurant. Indeed, these are three classic rock songs we bet your mom loves today.
“Michelle” by The Beatles from ‘Rubber Soul’ (1965)
Sometimes your favorite band seems to write a song just about you. Or just about your mom. There are people out there whose mothers are named Michelle, and for those gals, this song is for you. Hear Paul McCartney sing sweetly in both French and English in this love song about a person named Michelle. And if your mom (ahem, like mine) is named Michelle, then we can be sure this is one of her all-time favorite classic rock songs. And if she has a different name then, well, this is a tune that’s hard to resist, no matter your moniker.
“Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard” by Paul Simon from ‘Paul Simon’ (1972)
Who doesn’t like Paul Simon? No, even better, who doesn’t love Paul Simon? The dude wrote some of the most important and memorable songs of the 20th century. And at or near the top of the list is “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” from his self-titled 1972 solo LP. You don’t have to be a mom to love this song, but we bet most moms do love it. The acoustic-driven offering is fun to dance to, fun to sing along with, or just great to listen to. Think about all the nostalgic memories that rush back to your head when this tune plays.
“You’re My Best Friend” by Queen from ‘A Night At The Opera’ (1976)
Today, the British-born rock band Queen is known for songs like “We Will Rock You” and “Another One Bites the Dust”. But the band also boasted songs that didn’t have to be played in giant arenas. Case in point: “You’re My Best Friend” from the band’s seminal 1976 LP, A Night At The Opera. This tune is more easy-listening. It seems sung for that one special person and not necessarily an arena filled with 100,000. This song makes a person feel like they’re on top of the world. So, put it on as you bring your mom breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day. See how much it means to her! You’ll thank us later!
