“Cowboy, Take Me Away” by The Chicks

This classic country love song came out way back in 1999. It was released when The Chicks were still known as The Dixie Chicks. Written by Martie Maguire and Marcus Hummon, this song made it to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in the US. And it’s still a standard that makes it to country radio today.

Fun fact: This song is about being in love with a cowboy and the urge to leave everything behind for one’s freedom. However, the title of the song is a play on a slogan from Calgon bath products back in the day.

“My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw

Tim McGraw is no stranger to country love ballads. In fact, more than a few of his songs could make it to this list. That being said, there’s something about “My Best Friend” that is just so romantic and enduring. This 1999 hit was a chart-topper on the country charts and a standout single from McGraw’s record Place In The Sun.

“My Best Friend” is all about having the privilege of marrying your best friend, who has been with you through thick and thin.

“Forever After All” by Luke Combs

This more recent classic from Luke Combs proves that country love songs are far from dead in the 2020s. “Forever After All” was released in 2020 as part of the deluxe album What You See Ain’t Always What You Get. I’d be bold enough to say that this is one of the cutest country love songs that has come out this decade. I’m really not surprised that it made it all the way to No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart.

“Forever After All” is a tender little love song about how Combs is enamored with all of his wife’s many unique quirks and attributes. And the theme of the song is all about how love, unlike physical things and possessions, will never, ever die.
