Brotherly Love: 3 of the Most Successful Pairs of Brothers in Rock & Roll History

Chemistry is arguably the most important element in any rock & roll band. It is a hard thing to come by, and if you’ve been in a band, or at least played music with another person, then you know that fact to be true. That being so, it is no surprise that some of the finest bands have consisted of at least two siblings. After all, even if you dislike your sibling, you know how they operate, thus you know how to work with them. Well, hypothetically at least.

Some of the finest sibling bands in music include The Kings of Leon, The Jackson Five, and The Beach Boys. However, for this article, we aren’t listing the best mult-sibling bands. Rather, we are acknowledging the best brotherly duos in rock & roll history. So, without further ado, here are three of the most successful pairs of brothers in rock & roll history.

Don and Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers

The Everly Brothers‘ contributions to rock & roll paved the way for bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Simon & Garfunkel, and several other iconic bands of the 60s. They were one of the biggest bands of the 50s, and they accomplished that feat thanks to the inherent chemistry Don and Phil obtained.

During their careers, the Everly Brothers garnered three No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The Everly Brothers’ career ended in a ball of fire, as Don and Phil became estranged after their disbandment in 1973. Nevertheless, they showed the world that rock & roll was the future of popular music.

Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC

Angus and Malcolm Young were the co-founders of the ever-so-violent yet pleasant hard rock band, AC/DC. In the late 70s and the early 80s, the Young brothers showed the world that rock music could be simple and accessible, all while being completely innovative and energetic. They propelled the 70s into the 80s.

Angus and Malcolm of AC/DC have scored three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and have had a plethora of songs grace the Billboard Hot 100. More importantly, they have created an untouchable legacy, a legacy that Angus continues to support, even though his brother passed away in 2017.

Duane and Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band

Duane and Greg Allman are, without a doubt, two of the most talented musicians of the 1970s. Alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd, Greg, Duane, and The Allman Brothers Band helped create one of the most unique subgenres of all time, Southern rock.

The band’s chart history is good, but not relatively impressive. However, Duane and Gregg seemingly didn’t care about chart history. Instead, they cared about offering cool sounds to cool people, and needless to say, they did just that. So cool that they helped define the sound and culture of the 70s.
