“An Angel on Earth”: Watch Carrie Underwood Surprise Tennessee Church, Lead Christmas Worship

All the way back in 2005, Carrie Underwood became only the fourth-ever winner of the singing reality competition show American Idol. Nearly 20 years later, the curly-haired Oklahoman with the big voice is now one of country music’s brightest stars. In 2020, Underwood released My Gift, her first full-length Christmas album. The tracklist included a mix of time-honored Yuletide classics and original hits penned by Underwood herself. Recently, the “Blown Away” singer went the more traditional route when she led a Nashville-area church in Christmas worship.

Carrie Underwood Surprises Nashville-Area Congregation

Back in August, Carrie Underwood shocked members of Rolling Hills Church when she took the stage to perform her 2019 hit “Goodness of God.” Over the weekend, the Franklin, Tennessee churchgoers got their second impromptu Carrie Underwood concert in four months.

Radiant in a sparkly green top, the eight-time Grammy Award winner belted holiday classics such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The First Noel.” Underwood crashed the church’s Sounds of Christmas concert—much to the delight of (it seems) literally everyone.

“Her voice is the only gift I need for Christmas,” one TikTok user commented. Another declared the “Before He Cheats” songstress “an angel on earth.”

Another added, “Carrie. Church. Nashville. Does it get any better?!?!”

Indeed, it does not. The American Idol judge sounds like she was born to sing Christmas tunes. (Actually, she sounds like she was born to sing anything, but that’s another story.)

Carrie Is Feeling the Holiday Spirit

Saturday’s appearance at Rolling Hills Church wasn’t Carrie Underwood’s first surprise appearance of the holiday season. On Dec. 6, she joined gospel stars the McCrary Sisters at their “A McCrary Kind of Christmas” concert. The 15th annual event, held at Riverside Revival in Nashville, benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, along with individual families in need in the greater Nashville area.

Underwood joined the trio for a performance of her 2020 hit “Let There Be Peace.”

Additionally, Carrie Underwood will help ring in 2025 on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest.
