Despite multiple controversies and a brief cancelation, Morgan Wallen is one of the biggest stars in modern country music. He had the biggest country tour of 2024, launched two albums to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, and sent 14 singles to the top of the country charts. Today, the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year added another notch to his belt. Billboard named Dangerous: The Double Album the top album of the 21st century. His latest release One Thing at a Time, came in at No. 6 on the decades-spanning list.

Wallen released Dangerous in 2022 and broke several chart records. It was the first album to spend 100 weeks in the Billboard 200’s top 10. It stayed in the upper region of the survey for 158 weeks and spent 10 weeks at the top. This success on the all-genre chart came after it debuted at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart where it spent a staggering 97 weeks.

There’s no denying Wallen’s overwhelming chart success. However, as is the case with success, there are bound to be haters. Music fans took to social media on Thursday to react to Wallen’s name at the top of Billboard‘s list.
Morgan Wallen’s Album Topping the Top 200 Albums of the 21st Century Draws a Wide Range of Reactions
Not long after Billboard released its list of Top 200 Albums of the 21st Century, Wallen’s name started trending on Twitter. However, the buzz didn’t always come from excited supporters. Instead, music fans from all walks of life took to social media to share their confusion and anger.
“I opened this and saw a Morgan Wallen album as No. 1 and immediately knew not to take this list seriously,” one tweet read.
Another Twitter user was looking for another name to show up at the top of the list but found Wallen’s instead. “I feel like I’m being gaslit by that Billboard biggest artists of the 21st century list,” they wrote. “In what world are Chris Brown and Morgan Wallen bigger than Ariana Grande?”
Some music fans were more confused than angry. The tweet below sums up a large portion of the top trending posts about the “Sand in My Boots” singer.

However, arguably the biggest confusion amongst fans was the timeline and the crowning of any album as the biggest of this century. With the calendars just hitting 2025, we still have 70-plus years until the end of the century.

Still, applause did roll in for Wallen from fans who appreciate his work. “An amazing album and well deserved,” one X user wrote. “Morgan is the king of the music industry,” another added, while one fan went as far as to crown it “One of the best albums of all time IMO.”
