Bringin’ It Backwards: Interview with Alexander 23

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Alexander 23 over Zoom video! 

Rising singer/songwriter/producer, Alexander 23 recently dropped his highly anticipated tender track “Cry Over Boys” was featured on New Music Daily on Apple Music. The breakout artist first shared a clip of the song on TikTok and fans quickly became captivated by the attention-grabbing lyrics such as “Aren’t you tired of getting hurt? Aren’t you sick of making it worse?” and “You cry over boys you know will never cry over you.” After teasing the tear-jerking song on the social platform, it quickly garnered nearly one million likes across each clip. Of the track Alexander shares “This song is about a loop I think a lot of people are stuck in. Romanticizing romance at the cost of their own sustainable happiness. I hope it can help people break out of that cycle.”  In addition to the emotional journey the record takes you on, Alexander shares an accompanying visual directed by Stefan Kohli (Ariana Grande, LANY, Trippie Redd).

 Late last year Alexander shared various tracks including “Nothing’s The Same” on which he teamed up with Jeremy Zucke “Brainstorm” a vulnerable track highlighting the struggle with mental illness as well as “Caught In The Middle” which Variety called “ fairly irresistible” and “IDK You Yet,” his biggest track yet. The song caught the attention of Rolling Stone, Billboard, Paper, amongst others and led to his national TV debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Today the track has been certified Gold by the RIAA and has amassed nearly 300 million streams globally.

ABOUT ALEXANDER 23: Chicago native, Alexander Glantz is the sole creative force behind Alexander 23: he writes, records, and produces everything in his self-built Los Angeles studio. Making music since the age of 12, Alexander spent his teenage years refining his craft playing in bands. Today, the multi-instrumentalist infuses his indie-pop sound with effortless falsettos, intimate guitar plucks, and up-tempo drums to create something entirely his own. In March 2019, he made his debut with “Dirty AF1s,” which premiered as Apple Music’s Bop of the Week and landed on Spotify’s highly-coveted New Music Friday playlist. Later that fall he shared his critically acclaimed debut EP, I’m Sorry I Love You, which earned recognition from BillboardOnes To WatchPaper, and more. The rising artist spent the rest of 2019 on tour with Alec Benjamin, Omar Apollo, and mxmtoon, and also made his Lollapalooza debut. This year, Alexander sold out two headline shows at Moroccan Lounge, joined Chelsea Cutler on her U.S. tour, and  dueted with her on her album How to Be Human. Additionally, he teamed up with Selena Gomez to remix her hit, “Rare.”
