With all their hard work and dedication bringing them to that moment, the pressure seemed unbearable. And for Carrie Underwood, she knew exactly what they were going through. It was 20 years ago that Underwood stood on the American Idol stage to win season four. For Roberts, the realization of winning American Idol might take some time to process. The last few days have been a whirlwind for the singer as he walked away with a cash prize and a record deal. Ready to start his career in the music industry, it seemed that Roberts received some motivation from Underwood.
Speaking with Extra TV after the finale, Underwood shared the kind words she told Roberts. “I got to tell him afterwards, I was like, ‘Now go do great things.’” Although Roberts received praise from all the judges, including Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, Underwood’s words carried more weight given her history with the show. Hoping to carve his own place in the music industry, Roberts didn’t want to waste time.

Besides Roberts, Underwood discussed the importance of a show like American Idol. When speaking about Foster and Breanna Nix, the country singer explained how even competing on the show helped expand their stardom. “With Jamal, with John, with Breanna, I’m like, ‘This is who the show is for. ‘Everybody had, you know, small followings on Instagram or whatever, but it wasn’t like they had been doing this for years.”
As for Underwood’s future with American Idol, it’s unclear for now if the singer will return for season 24. The producers already revealed that the show was picked up for another season, which will air in 2026. With Richie and Bryan most likely returning, fans wondered if Underwood would join them.
Not wanting to make a decision just yet, Underwood didn’t discuss her plans for the future, but for fans of the show, they hoped that the country star would return next season.
