While having high hopes at the beginning of the NFL season, the Carolina Panthers watched their season dwindle as they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 29th. Hoping to end the year on a high note, the Panthers are currently 4-12. Preparing to take on the Atlanta Falcons, it seemed that fans believed their favorite team might need a little help when it came to defense. And when looking over the possibilities, some turned to none other than country singer Luke Combs.

Growing up in North Carolina, Combs is always willing to throw his support behind the local teams. But for fans of the Panthers, they wanted more than his support as some loved the idea of him hitting the field. With the idea gaining momentum, Combs decided to share a post of himself on Twitter in the uniform of the Panthers. He captioned the post, writing, “I’m ready to suit up.”

Gaining over two million views, fans loved discussing what would happen if Combs ended up on the Panthers. For one person, they already mapped out his early career in football, explaining, “He was a third string dreamer on a second place team! He’s had some hits he’s proud of. Carolina, give him a chance!”

Outside of the NFL, Combs is also a massive supporter of baseball. Seeming to love American sports, the singer recalled growing up going to baseball games. “We moved to Asheville, where they had the [Astros’ High-A Ashville] Tourists. We went to a million Tourists games growing up. It was this accessible, affordable experience growing up in a small town.” Remembering some of his favorite players at the time, the singer added, “Growing up on Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire, I was so entranced by this almost superhuman feat by these larger-than-life human beings.”
Having felt the pressure of the spotlight before, Combs noted how fans of baseball and country music aren’t far apart. “There’s such a strong crossover between the two fan bases — the community that loves baseball and the community that loves my music and country music. It’s a match made in heaven. Country music and baseball just make sense together.”
While exploring a career in country music and fatherhood, the idea of Combs taking the field with the Panthers is only a dream – for now.
