“I’ve always appreciated how soccer brings people together from all over the world, so it’s truly an honor to be part of one of MLS’ marquee events,” Breland said, per the outlet. “I’m looking forward to bringing the energy with my national anthem and setting the tone for a thrilling match, highlighting the league’s brightest stars.”
During the game, the MLS’ best players will face off against the top athletes in Mexico’s LIGA MX.
Breland is a noted Nashville SC fan. As such, he’ll be delighted that the team’s Hany Mukhtar, Sam Surridge, and Andy Najar will all participate.
MLS’ All-Star festivities will include more than the big game, which will take place Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. Attendees can look forward to fan zones, player appearances, a day of service, an All-Star skills challenge, and more.
Breland’s Music Career
Breland released his latest music, an EP titled Project 2024, in October.
“This is a project that was largely inspired by a trip that I took down to Selma, Alabama, which is the land of my ancestors,” he told Billboard at the time. “I had never been, and seeing that rich history of what it means to be Black in America—seeing a lot of the issues that they were fighting for in the ‘60s back on the docket—I feel that this is a project that is really born out of creative freedom, in a world where we can’t always take certain freedoms for granted.”
He added, “I wanted to put this out, not as a political agenda, but as a creative one. [I want] to say, ‘I’m going to continue to push the boundaries of what country music can mean.’”
As for when fans can expect the singer’s sophomore LP—his debut record, Cross Country, came out in 2022—he told the outlet that he was “just now starting to properly work on the sophomore full-length album.”
Until then, he said, “I think that Project 2024 is a really great way to get back into the marketplace and give people some new music.”
