Forgotten Songs From Legendary Rock Bands That You’ve Never Heard

Even the biggest fans of the following iconic rock bands might not know every song in their discography. In fact, there are a few forgotten songs and deep cuts from these rock bands that deserve way more love. Let’s look at just a few examples.

1. “Care Of Cell 44” by The Zombies

The Zombies are best known for beat/rock hits like “She’s Not There” and “Tell Her No”. However, their discography is far from small. There are quite a few little gems sprinkled throughout their work in the 1960s, in particular. “Care Of Cell 44” was released in 1967 and has to be one of the best baroque pop tunes from its time. It’s wild to think that this song didn’t even reach the charts.

2. “Tangerine” by Led Zeppelin

We all know Led Zeppelin hits like “Stairway To Heaven” and “Black Dog”. But what about those lesser-known tracks from the rock band’s glittering (and long) discography? “Tangerine” is just one example. “Tangerine” is a lovely little folk rock gem that lacks the heaviness of a lot of Led Zeppelin’s previous releases. They were great at ballads, and this song proves that notion.

3. “Telephone Line” by ELO

Out of all the songs in Electric Light Orchestra’s hefty discography, “Telephone Line” has to be one of their most underappreciated gems. It’s one of the greatest songs of its era, and yet, it doesn’t get as much love as other ELO tunes. Released in 1977, the orchestral pop song “Telephone Line” did pretty well on the charts, especially in Canada and New Zealand. However, among major hits like “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Xanadu”, it tends to get buried.

4. “Johnny Thunder” by The Kinks

We all know songs like “You Really Got Me” and “Tired Of Waiting For You” by The Kinks. However, this iconic and influential band makes our list of forgotten rock songs with the delightful tune “Johnny Thunder”. This one is massively influential; New York Dolls’ John Genzale famously took his stage name from the song. However, this 1968 rock song didn’t even get a proper single release, and thus, didn’t really chart.
