Country music makes no mistake that alcohol can be a powerful tool when it comes to partying and commiserating. While there are the tailgating, beer drinking songs and the heartache numbing whiskey songs, there is one drink that does it all: tequila. Find four country songs that blame it (whatever it may be) on tequila, below.

“Tequila” (Dan + Shay)
First up, we have a heartbreak country song, “Tequila” by Dan + Shay. Every time this twosome gets a sip of this drink, they are reminded of a special someone. Taste can have powerful transportive effects. For Dan + Shay, the sharp burn of this drink takes them right back to when their hearts were intact.
But when I taste tequila, baby I still see ya
Cuttin’ up the floor in a sorority t-shirt
The same one you wore when we were
Sky high in Colorado, your lips pressed against the bottle
Swearin’ on a Bible, baby, I’d never leave ya
“Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” (Joe Nichols)
On the opposite end of the emotional spectrum, we have Joe Nichols’ “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off”. Nichols knows his girl well. One sip of tequila and she gonna lose an article of clothing or two. He doesn’t much mind though. It’s less a put down and more so a knowing chuckle. This song is for everyone who has ever gotten a little carried away while partaking in a good time.
I told her put an extra layer on
I know what happens when she drinks Patrón
Her closet’s missing half the things she bought
Yeah, tequila makes her clothes fall off
“Tequila Does” (Miranda Lambert)
Miranda Lambert blames tequila for her unrealistic expectations for men. She can’t seem to find the right cowboy for her, so she settles for Casamigos, Patrón, and Jose Cuervo. The boys around here can’t seem to measure up to the kind of man Lambert needs, but no bother. She’s got something to keep her warm at night anyhow…
Then I said “Adiós
Casamigos is taking me home tonight”
‘Cause he don’t love me like tequila does, nobody can
He don’t give me that border town buzz like tequila does

“Margaritaville” (Jimmy Buffett)
While there might be some discrepancy when it comes to what genre Jimmy Buffett is, no one can deny the impact he’s had on country music. Because of this, we thought it apt to include “Margaritaville” on this list. No song has ever peddled tequila quite as well. Buffett made a name on sinking into the relaxation a cold margarita can offer. Every song on this list has this track to thank for setting the standard for drinking songs.
Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville
Searchin’ for my long lost shaker of salt
Salt, salt, salt
Some people claim that there’s a woman to blame
And I know this is somebody’s fault
