We are in spring, and even though it is a lovely season, we are all waiting for summer. We’re waiting for the Fourth of July, baseball, BBQ, pool days, and for some folks, country music and some time on the lake. Lakes have always been a consistent theme in country music, and consequently, some of the most popular country songs of all time are centered around wasting away on a lake. That being so, the two are a match made in heaven.

Just imagine you, the open water, a cold drink, and a quintessential summer country music classic playing in the background. For some, this is the closest thing to heaven, and if you’re one of those folks, we are going to help you make this experience better than it already is. So, here are three country music songs you should listen to while wasting away by the lake this summer.
“It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” by Jimmy Buffett & Alan Jackson
This one is a no-brainer. Both Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson have been longtime spokespersons for the laissez-faire lifestyle, and it bleeds through in most of their music. Though, especially on their 2003 summer country music anthem, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”
Since its release, the song has remained a fan favorite and has withstood the test of time thanks to its easy listening lyrics and melody. In other words, it’s a song people play when they want to have a good time. Additionally, it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for a total of eight weeks.
“Pontoon” by Little Big Town
What is a good day at the lake without a boat? Well, to Little Big Town, it is seemingly the most important aspect of a great time on some murky body of water. Released in 2012 on their album, Tornado, “Pontoon” articulates the simple pleasures of a sweet and simple summer day on the water.
Following its 2012 release, “Pontoon” debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Weeks later, it impressively made the grand climb to No. 1 and won a Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
“Chattahoochee” by Alan Jackson
Alan Jackson makes this list once again thanks to his iconic summer country music single, “Chattahoochee.” This song might be about a river, but it still gets the people going and is conducive to a great time on some body of water.
Released in 1992, “Chattahoochee” is one of Alan Jackson’s most successful singles of all time. The single peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart after debuting at No. 72. To this day, it is arguably one of the most iconic summer country songs of all time.
