Jelly Roll’s Wife Bunnie Xo’s Threatening Phone Calls With a Convicted Murderer

As the wife of country star and former convict Jelly Roll, model and podcaster Bunnie Xo is certainly no stranger to larger-than-life personalities or characters with a dark past. But there was likely little she could do to prepare for a series of threatening phone calls with convicted murderer Wade Wilson.

The phone calls came after Bunnie Xo had connected with Wilson about a potential podcast or documentary appearance. At the time of this writing, Wilson is on death row in Florida.

Bunnie Xo’s Threatening Phone Calls With Convicted Murderer

Bunnie Xo first expressed interest in contacting Wade Wilson in the summer of 2024. Wilson was convicted for the gruesome murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz. During the trial, he gained online attention for his physical appearance. Critics denounced Bunnie’s morbid curiosity about the death row inmate. By the end of her communication with him, she certainly knew why.

Bunnie Xo communicated with Wilson via email and two phone calls, the last of which became threatening. After the podcaster told Wilson that it was illegal for him to receive compensation for any involvement or appearances in a docuseries about his crimes, he replied with a vaguely ominous warning. “Me and you both know one thing for sure,” he said. “You know some people, maybe I know some people, and everybody’s got a past.”

“I’m not talking about, ‘Oh, that motherf***** sold some drugs,” he continued. “F*** all that, bro. I’m talking about real people out there, bro. Doing some things.” Bunnie Xo responded to the threat on an October 2024 episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, saying, “I knew exactly what he was talking about. But I wasn’t gonna feed into it. You’re not gonna threaten me with people from the inside or whatever the hell’s going on.”

The Podcaster Learned Two Valuable Lessons

Bunnie Xo’s fascination with Wade Wilson is not dissimilar to the general public interest in true crime content, particularly around conventionally attractive men á la Ted Bundy. Her attempts to connect with the convict while he awaits the death penalty in Florida was part of a true crime installment of her Dumb Blonde podcast, which she premiered in October.

However, following Wilson’s thinly veiled threats and an onslaught of harassing calls from women who claim to be in a relationship with Wilson, Bunnie Xo started to pull back from her initial decision. “There’s nothing charming about him,” she insisted on the podcast. “There’s nothing cool about him. This man is just a stone-cold murderer, and it’s disgusting.”

“If I’ve learned anything in this entire lesson it’s just to never, ever give somebody who could do the things that he’s done the benefit of the doubt. The one time that I was willing to be open about something, I feel like it completely bit me in the a**.”

Jelly Roll’s wife admitted that she hadn’t examined his crimes thoroughly. In addition to learning not to give these violent criminals “the benefit of the doubt,” she learned the harmful effects of this morbid fascination on the victims’ families. “I let my business mind override my empathy,” Bunnie Xo confessed. “Wrong. I should have never done that. Not having empathy for the victims and the victims’ families was absolutely not okay.”
