While producing dozens of No. 1 hits, Luke Bryan took his career in a different direction when he decided to become a judge on American Idol. Having spent years helping shape the careers of other singers, it allowed the country star to look back on his own career in the music industry. Loving the life he fashioned on and off the stage, there were more than a few mistakes made along the way. And for Bryan, he will never forget passing on Morgan Wallen’s hit song “Sand In My Boots.”

Written by Josh Osborne, HARDY, and Ashley Gorley, the song landed in Bryan’s lap before making it over to Wallen. Having a chance to take the song, the singer decided to pass. “I mean there was one point in my career I had sang about trucks enough to where, I mean I passed stupidly on the Morgan’s ‘Sand In My boots’ because it had Chevrolet in it.” And his reasoning – “I just went through two years of my life where I was like, man, I sing about trucks a lot. I sing about tailgates, and I think I got in my head a little bit.”

Luke Bryan Happy With Being The Fun Guy
Considered one of the top voices when it came to party anthems, Bryan capitalized on the fame with albums like Crash My Party and Tailgates & Tanlines. “I was 34, 35, 36, 37, making Spring Break albums appealing to 20-year-olds…It didn’t get weird. It just felt like, you know, it’s time to move on from maybe the spring break me trying to sing college songs. But it was fun for me, and it was awesome…”
Caring little about the accolades, Bryan only wanted to have fun alongside his fans. “I think people generally think my personality is let’s have some fun. And if I’m known for that, if I don’t get a male vocalist of the year and Grammys or whatever, because I may be known as the guy that has had fun through his career and put out a lot of fun songs, I’m cool with that.”
While solidifying himself in the history of country music, Bryan still suffered from imposter syndrome, admitting, “Every time somebody introduces me as ‘Country Music superstar, Luke Bryan,’ it still freaks me out.”
