Major and the Monbacks have a devoted following in their hometown of Norfolk, VA, one that has earned them opening slots with artists like St. Paul and the Broken Bones and Charles Bradley. The Southern psych band recently wrapped up work on their forthcoming album Moonlight Anthems with producer Matthew E. White, known for his work with Natalie Prass and Flo Morrissey.

In advance of that project, the band has shared a new song, “We Are Doing Fine,” a Beatles-influenced tune with lush walls of vocal harmonies, a prominent horn section, and an anthemic singalong chorus.
“‘We Are Doing Fine’ was one of the songs where we got a chance to really dive in to some tape manipulation experiments with Matthew E. White,” bass player Cole Friedman says. “The entire rhythm section actually tracked the song to analog tape about 10 bpms faster and a whole step up from the intended key and speed of the song, and we then slowed the tape down to get the song back to the original key. We had no clue if it was gonna work out, but it ended up giving the song a really cool depth with the rest of the overdubbed tracks recorded in real time over the slowed down track.”
