Miranda Lambert is nothing short of an icon in country music. She’s received the Country Icon Award at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards and countless other accolades, after all. That being said, the only way Lambert could become a country icon herself was to walk in the footsteps of the icons that came before her. Lambert once divulged who those icons were in a January 2025 interview with Today.

Prior to appearing on Today’s With Jenna & Friends, Lambert took some time to appear on the network’s video series 8 Before 8. In the interview, Lambert discussed what it’s like to make music with her husband, her 2024 album Postcards From Texas, and her revenge anthem “Wranglers”. The majority of Miranda Lambert’s comments were rich with information. However, she made one particular comment that spoke multitudes about who she is as a musician.
Miranda Lambert’s Biggest Inspirations Are a Bit Surprising
During the interview segment, Lambert addressed who her country music icons and inspirations are.
“So many people have inspired me, but country, specifically…” Lambert said. “The obvious ones [are] Dolly [Parton) and Reba [McEntire] because they are our queens. Loretta Lynn. But on this record [‘Postcards From Texas’], specifically, I feel like George Strait had a lot of influence for me. We call him ‘The King’ in Texas for a reason.”
Per Lambert’s comments, it seems George Strait also influenced the title of Lambert’s Postcards From Texas. When asked about the inspiration for the title, Lambert told the source that Texas was really at the heart of the record.
“The name ‘Postcards From Texas’ kind of felt right for the record because there are so many influences on this record that have sort of made me who I am as an artist musically,” Lambert said. “I felt like each was a little snapshot of the last 20 years of inspiration.”
Miranda Lambert doesn’t divulge where exactly these inspirations reside on the album. However, thanks to her staunch Texas roots, Strait and a couple of other Texas legends’ footprints make a subtle appearance on the album. Miranda Lambert’s album is Texas through and through, as it was the first record she produced in Texas since she was 18 years old.
