New Superman Movie Revitalizes Mid-2000s Rocker Featuring ‘70s Rock Icon Iggy Pop

Blockbuster movies are perfect opportunities to showcase an exciting and eccentric soundtrack, and the 2025 film Superman did not disappoint when it revitalized a mid-2000s rock song featuring Iggy Pop, a musical icon who ascended to stardom decades earlier. Those with elephant-like memories might remember the track from a Cadillac commercial from the States in 2007.

For everyone else, the gritty cut serves as an excellent backdrop for the end of the film, if only for how unexpected the musical choice is. And of course, for the Teddybears, it’s a welcome opportunity to reach a new audience.

New Superman Movie Revitalizes Mid-2000s Rocker

The 2025 film, Superman, featuring David Corenswet as Clark Kent-slash-Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, ends with Iggy Pop singing over the rolling credits: You see me drivin’ down the street, I’m just not lookin’ good. I got both hands off the wheel. I got you running, I’m listening to music you can’t hear, I got pretty music in my ear. Indeed, the song seems to act as an internal monologue to the titular character, who spends the film torn between his true identity as Superman and his bespectacled alias, Clark Kent.

The song is The Teddybears’ “Punkrocker,” featuring rock icon Iggy Pop on lead vocals. YouTubers flooded the comment section of Atlantic Records’ music video for the song, with one writing, “Who could have thought that this song would have suited Superman so perfectly?” Another wrote, “Unbelievable how hard this hit during credits. Thanks James Gunn.” One user commented, “Superman redefined both this music and what it means to be punk rock.”

Gunn’s inclusion of “Punkrocker” in the final scene of Superman certainly seems to reinforce the hero’s journey in a way that’s fresh, modern, and, yeah, a little punk rock. Director Gunn could have chosen any number of rock ‘n’ roll classics that might have been more recognizable. But just like Superman himself, Gunn chose something that was out of the ordinary, unexpected, and thrilling.

How Iggy Pop Joined Forces With The Teddybears

Swedish music group Teddybears is as undefinable as they come. Sometimes rock, other times electronica, and always exciting, the trio of musicians has built their career on impressive collaborations with some of the biggest names in the music industry. That, of course, includes Iggy Pop. “We always look for unique voices that touch us in a strong way, be it the raspy bass of Mad Cobra, the sweet soulful falsetto of CeeLo Green, or the deep drawl of Iggy Pop, Teddybears founder Klas Ahlund told Riff Magazine in 2011.

Teddybears was fully aware of how special it was to get a music veteran like Iggy in the studio, too.“It’s pretty heavy,” bandmate Joakim Ahlund told Ion Magazine. “All those people are our heroes. We never would’ve dared to dream. It’s all pretty amazing for us that we got the opportunity to work with such cool artists. But for me personally, I don’t mean any disrespect to any of the others, but Iggy Pop…that’s a proud moment for me.”
