Having explored country music as part of a band, Paul Cauthen eventually turned to a solo career with albums like Room 41 and Country Coming Down. Known for his rambunctious personality, the singer gained a faithful following over the last few years. Although looking forward to hitting the road with his headlining tour, a few weeks ago, Cauthen announced he was canceling the remainder of the tour to focus on his mental health. While fans supported the singer’s decision, apparently, Cauthen stayed silent about his ongoing battle with thyroid cancer.

Back when Cauthen decided to cancel his tour, he shared a post on Instagram, reading, “Starting today Paul is leaving the road and going back to Texas to take care of his mental and physical health. We all love Paul very much and we are very happy and relieved that he has made this decision to put himself first. It is obviously necessary to cancel all of his shows for the foreseeable future and each venue will be able to provide information on cancellations and refunds. Join us in lifting up Paul and anyone near you that may be suffering.”
Paul Cauthen Not Ready To Walk Off Stage Just Yet
During the weeks that followed, Cauthen remained silent about his mental health. That was until Thursday when he posted a video of himself, explaining what really happened that caused him to cancel the tour. Discussing how his body warned him while on the road, the country singer decided to travel home, allowing doctors at the Cooper Clinic to check him out. He revealed, “They found a mass in my right thyroid, and it, uh, they told me that it is papillary carcinoma. And it’s, uh, cancer.”
A frightening word to hear any person say, Cauthen seemed it high spirits as his time away from the stage allowed him to reflect on his life. “I have had a lot of time to reflect and realize that life is short and precious and, um, just know that I thank you so much for all of your unwavering support through it all.”
As for what the future held for Cauthen, he insisted that his time on stage wasn’t over. “I will tour again. I will sing on stage again. I’m not done by any means. I’ll have new music. I will keep on writing and keep on doing what I know that I need to do. And I know that I’m a vessel on stage. That God has me here for a reason.”
Cauthen ended his message, thanking fans for their ongoing love and support as he navigated his battle with cancer.
