World-renowned saxophonist Mike Phillips performed the national anthem at the Lions-Bears NFL game today at 12:30 p.m. He took to Ford Field to showcase his incredible skill before the game kicked off, delighting football fans and viewers at home.
Donning a Detroit Lions jacket, Phillips gave a moving and jazzy rendition of the national anthem that had fans cheering in the stadium. He held one of the final notes to the cheers and shouts from the crowd. Online, fans also shared their excitement. “Mike Phillips back for another national anthem performance on the saxophone. He’s the best,” one person wrote. “What a national anthem for the Bears/Lions game!!!” another fan commented.

Another fan wrote, “Nothing like a good sax to kickstart a football game!” Ford Field previously announced Phillips’ involvement on social media, writing, “This Thanksgiving, we are honored to welcome back world-renowned saxophonist Mike Phillips at Ford Field to perform the national anthem.”
Phillips’ fans were thrilled to learn of his involvement, sharing their excitement on social media. “Heโs so good!” one person noted. “The best national anthem Iโve ever seen!” another fan wrote, referencing Phillips’ past performances. He’s been a long-standing performer at NFL games, playing the national anthem at the Lions-Buccaneers divisional game in January. He also performed in 2016 before the NFC championship game between the Falcons and the Packers.

Furthermore, Phillips has performed the national anthem at MLB and NBA games, as well as NASCAR events. He’s also worked with other legendary artists like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Prince, and has put out six saxophone albums over the years.
