Some folks believe one should never meet their heroes. Well, that is not the case for Scotty McCreery, as the moment he met George Strait is one he will seemingly cherish for the rest of his life. McCreery is no stranger to celebrities, both in the sense that he is one and he has also met his fair share of them. However, according to the unofficial Texas law, George Strait is not a celebrity, he is a God.

So, according to this humorously colloquial law, McCreery was not meeting just any celebrity. He was meeting with the man who partially made his music career. Recently, McCreery spoke with Wide Open Country about the experience and its personal magnificence.
Scotty McCreery and George Strait’s Full Circle Moment
Like many country musicians of the present, George Strait was a founding father in their musical taste. That also goes for McCreery, as Strait was not only his first concert but also is currently his hero. He told the publication, “George is such an icon, such a legend, such a hero of mine.”
Regarding their first interaction, McCreery recollected, “The first time I met him, he tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘Hey Scotty’” and “I was speechless for like two minutes before I could even say anything.” Who knows exactly what was going on in McCreery’s mind at the time, but it might be fair to assume that he reverted to his excitable boyhood ways in light of the interaction.
Scotty McCreery’s public affection for Strait dates back to his 2021 track, “Damn Strait.” McCreery did not write the song, but he still viewed it as the perfect way to pay his respects to his biggest icon. In addition to the sentimental value the song obtained, McCreery also admired the song for its merit and wit. He stated, “It actually makes sense in the story to the point where even if you don’t know George Strait songs — shame on you if that’s you. But if you don’t, you can still listen to the story and understand the story.”
So, if you are a firm believer in the first line of this article, maybe Scotty McCreery’s story will change your mind.
