Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, have been found guilty of five counts of federal wire fraud via a Fort Lauderdale, Florida court. The verdict was delivered on March 29 following a jury deliberation of about three and a half hours.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors said that the pair had intentionally defrauded a number of luxury goods companies over the last few years, including a bed company, an exotic car dealership, a television manufacturer, and a jewelry business.

Kingston and his mother were arrested mere hours from each other back in May of 2024. According to a grand jury indictment, the mother-and-son duo had put together a system for their crimes. Kingston would use his status as a celebrity to convince various businesses to send him luxury items ahead of payment. Turner, then, would get back in touch with the businesses and send them fraudulent wire transfers. According to prosecutors, their game came to an end around March of last year.

Sean Kingston Could Face Serious Jail Time Following His Charge of Wire Fraud

Both Kingston and Turner pleaded not guilty to all counts against them. They were ultimately found guilty on all five counts. The two could be seen embracing in tears before Kingston thanked the judge for being fair. Kingston refused to make any statements to the press when he left the courthouse.

Following the trial, Sean Kingston has been ordered by a judge to stay under house arrest with an ankle monitor. He is also required to post a surety bond, with a home value of $500,000 and $200,000 in cash. Turner, alternatively, was transferred to federal custody following concerns that she would attempt to flee the country.

After returning home on Friday, Kingston posted a photo of his mother to his Instagram Stories, captioned “My only queen forever. Love you!!!! I promise you this is not the end!” and “Lately they been lyrna break me on the daily”.

Both Kingston and his mother will be sentenced on July 11. And unfortunately, each count carries a prison sentence that could be upwards of 20 years in federal prison.

Moral of the story: Don’t commit federal wire fraud, kids.
