Sheryl Crow talks the talk, but she also walks the walk. As of February 14, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow has sold her Tesla and donated the proceeds to NPR. Her decision to give the vehicle the boots comes as a response to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s recent involvement in the United States government, namely his push for “government efficiency” by cutting federal programs.

Sheryl Crow posted the somewhat humorous video of her waving away her Tesla via Instagram on Friday, with Andrea Bocelli’s “Time To Say Goodbye” playing in the background.
“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” the caption of the video reads. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”
The “If It Makes You Happy” hitmaker went on to say that she donated the money earned from selling her Tesla to NPR. For reference, under Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s plans to cut federal funding to a number of organizations, the public broadcasting organization’s future is being threatened.
Sheryl Crow’s Fans and Contemporaries Are Vibing With Her Decision to Give Her Tesla The Boot
Since Crow posted, quite a few fans and fellow musicians have praised her decision to sell her Tesla in protest.
“Sheryl Queen,” mused Kacey Musgraves.
“Love to see it,” said Margo Price.
“I’ve always been a fan of yours- but now I’m a super fan!” said a fan. “That’s awesome! Good on you for practicing what you preach!”
Back in 2019, Crow was a big fan of her Tesla. She once posted to X (then Twitter) asking for help on fixing the screen of the vehicle, and Musk even responded to the post. A lot has changed in just a few years.
Trump has criticized NPR for years, often disagreeing with the organization’s reporting of news. The Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr, who was appointed by Trump, recently launched a new investigation into NPR (as well as PBS) over a concern that their broadcasts “could be violating federal law by airing commercials.” Musk’s new DOGE initiative, along with the investigation, is currently working to remove whole agencies in order to reduce government spending.
