Sierra Ferrell Takes Performance to the Streets After Fire Alarm Interrupts Iowa Show

Sierra Ferrell’s backstory is the stuff of legend. In her early twenties, she left behind her home state of West Virginia in favor of “hopping trains and riding the rails.” The “American Dreaming” singer honed her craft by busking on the street corners of Chicago, Seattle, and New Orleans. After self-releasing two albums, Ferrell, now 36, earned national attention with 2021’s Long Time Coming. These days, you can find her on the road with A-list acts like Post Malone and Jelly Roll. But as the Grammy-winning Americana artist proved during a recent show in Iowa, she hasn’t forgotten her roots.

On Monday (July 14), Sierra Ferrell was midway through her final song, “Fox Hunt,” when she noticed the crowd emptying out of the Capitol Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. As fire alarms rang out, Ferrell and her band soon joined them.

Fortunately, the alarms were simply “accidental,” according to The Quad-City Times. However, the show must go on. Along with about 200 fans, Ferrell danced beneath the night sky as she performed songs like “Bells of Every Chapel” and “In Dreams.” The Americana Music Award winner even threw in a few covers.

“Back to the busking days,” one TikTok user remarked.

Performance “Felt Like a Homecoming”

Apparently, the impromptu roadside performance brought back fond memories for Sierra Ferrell as well. The “Dollar Bill Bar” singer shared a clip to her own Instagram page. Decked out in flowers and a flowy blue dress, she is truly in her element as she loses herself beneath the stars.

“Well… the fire alarm had other plans,” Ferrell wrote in the caption. “We didn’t get to finish the last song inside, so we took the encore to the street. I got my start busking on sidewalks, playin’ for strangers and stardust so this felt like a homecoming.”

Ferrell continued, “Thanks to everyone who stayed, sang, and made it magic anyway. That’s the kind of night I’ll never forget.”

She wasn’t the only one. “This made an already unforgettable night a CORE MEMORY!!!! thank you for a fantastic time,” one concertgoer gushed.
