As the frontman for Cross Canadian Ragweed, Cody Canada helped the celebrated “Red Dirt” country band sell over a million records. Canada, who now fronts The Departed, will release his first solo album on November 19 — a live acoustic effort dubbed Some Old, Some New, Maybe A Cover Or Two. Those covers include Peter Rowan’s “Ruby Ridge,” “George Strait’s “Unwound” and Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon.”

“I wrote ‘Pay’ about my dad’s best friend who committed suicide, and about a guy I knew that died from drug-related issues,” Canada tells American Songwriter. My dad was very angry at his friend and it broke my heart to see him so hurt. This song was my, ‘It’s OK, Dad’ song.
“Recording this acoustic album was a long time coming,” he continues. “I’ve done a ton of gigs in the past solo, but it’s been many years. I’m getting back to my old tunes as well as the brand new songs that are gonna be on the next Departed studio record. I figure this is a good way to let folks know.
