The news of Earheart’s passing made its way through country music as the musician struggled with cancer for some time. Passing away on May 13, 2025, the family shared a heartfelt obituary about the musician. Recalling how he first got into music, the obituary revealed, “Billy loved music early and had one year of piano lessons as a child. The piano teacher wasn’t teaching the music he wanted to play, so he taught himself.”

Playing his first gig in 1966, Earheart never lost that passion for performing and shared the stage with greats like Waylon Jennings, BB King, Eddie Hinton, Jimmy Buffet, Fleetwood Mac, and even the Eagles. Outside of his time on stage, the musician once struggled with sobriety. But according to his family, Earheart beat his addiction and was sober for over 30 years. “Billy passed away with over 30 years of sobriety. Without it, he would not have made it to 71.”
