If you could go back in time to take in the sights and sounds of any decade in the 20th century, we bet you’d turn the dial of your time machine to somewhere in the 1960s. The revolutionary era is just too important to pass up. Just think—all the music, all the groundbreaking, precedent-defining songs of the era. It’s almost too much to fathom.

So, if you could conjure up a classic rock supergroup from the era, who would you choose? If you could waive your magical sonic wand and put a few artists together to form the greatest band of all time, which would you look to urge to collaborate? That’s what we wanted to highlight below. Indeed, this is the 60s classic rock supergroup we’d want to see if we could.
Co-Lead Singer: Bob Dylan
While Bob Dylan may not be the best true singer of all the big names of the era, he certainly was the most remarkable songwriter of the decade. Can you imagine him writing songs for the other artists on this list? Then, if you had him harmonize with them, you could create some pretty incredible music. Of course, Dylan was later a part of a huge supergroup in the 80s, the Traveling Wilburys. But let’s get him started a few decades earlier.
Co-Lead Singer: Janis Joplin
Janis Joplin had one of the greatest and most profound singing voices of anyone in the decade. She could ring a church bell with the power of her voice that was 100 stories high. It was part volcano eruption and part gravely driveway. So, to put Dylan’s words in her mouth and watch her turn them into fireworks would be something truly stunning. She did it before, without another standout lyricist, country artist Kris Kristofferson. So, of course, it would work well with Bobby D. If only this could have happened even once…
Backing Band: The Jimi Hendrix Experience
We already know what Dylan’s influence was on Jimi Hendrix. The two made magic together when Hendrix covered Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”. But if they were in a group together? For an extended period of time? The world may have melted down under the weight and power of their art. Then, toss Joplin into the mix, and we all may have imploded into a black hole only to find the light on the other side of the tunnel. What magic and majesty this would have been. Hendrix, the greatest guitarist ever, would have taken his band to new heights when combined with Dylan and Joplin.
