Guitarist Confirms Departure From the Band
Taking to social media Thursday (Feb. 20), Brandon Ellis announced he recently parted ways with the Michigan death metal band after nine years.
“I’m proud of my contributions to the band’s legacy and of all that we’ve accomplished together,” Ellis wrote. “Unfortunately, the time has come that I must close this chapter and begin the next.”
He then thanked the fans “for the mountains of support” they offered over the years, before wishing his now-former bandmates the best “in all future endeavors.”
Joining The Black Dahlia Murder in 2016, Ellis played on the band’s last three albums: 2017’s “Nightbringers”, 2020’s “Verminous” and 2024’s “Servitude.”
The Black Dahlia Murder Will Reschedule Upcoming Shows
Brian Eschbach, lead singer of The Black Dahlia Murder, announced the postponement of several upcoming Latin American shows in a seemingly unrelated social media post.
Initially slated for this month, the band will now play six shows in Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, and Brazil this December.
“As everyone knows it’s been an intense 4 years in the world and within The Black Dahlia Murder,” Eschback wrote on Wednesday (Feb. 19.) “All of this has forced me to take a hard look in the mirror and reevalute my approach to life and focus on my health.”
Refunds are available at the point of purchase beginning Friday, Feb. 21, through April 21, Eschbach wrote.

Brian Eschbach Took Over Lead Vocals Following The Death of Trevor Strnad
Currently, the band is touring in support of their 10th studio album, Servitude. Their next scheduled show is April 17 at the Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo, Norway.
Named for the unsolved 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, The Black Dahlia Murder formed in 2001 in Waterford, Michigan. Guitarist and co-founder Brian Eschbach took over lead vocals in 2022 following the death of Trevor Strnad. Strnad was just 41 years old when he reportedly died by suicide.
“I know Trevor would keep this band going if I went down a deep, dark path and weren’t here,” Eschbach said in a September 2022 interview with Decibel magazine “It’s bigger than us.”
