Without warning on Wednesday (March 29), Tyler released his new song and music video “Sorry Not Sorry,” the second promotional track for his deluxe album coming Friday (March 31). With The Estate Sale, Tyler hopes to empty the vault of songs meant for his award-winning 2021 LP CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.

However, it’s hard to pinpoint why “Sorry Not Sorry” did not make the LP’s original track list, considering it may be one of the most emotionally vulnerable and impactful songs he’s ever made. Essentially divided into two halves, Tyler rides multiple beat switches on the track to give either a sincere apology or a non-apology to people in his life.

At first, he offers apologies to his friends and family members for not being the best version of himself, as he raps Sis’, I’m sorry I’m your kin / Sorry we ain’t close as we should’ve been. Additionally, he apologizes to former partners he’s dated for his struggles with his bisexuality.

Sorry to the freaks I led on (Nah, for real, I’m sorry)
Who thought their life was gonna change ’cause I gave ’em head on
But instead, I sped off, yeah, I know I’m dead wrong
Sorry to the guys I had to hide
Sorry to the girls I had to lie to who ain’t need to know if I was by the lake switchin’ tides, too

In the second verse, Tyler takes on a more sarcastic tone, giving ironic apologies to fans and critics for being too hard on him. Addressing those who scolded him for “changing” or abandoning his values, Tyler uses this portion to remind listeners that he’s just a human being at the end of the day.

Sorry I don’t wanna bro down, sorry I don’t know your pronouns
I don’t mean no disrespect, but, damn, we just met, calm the fuck down
Oh, I’m out of touch and I’m a jerk? A bank account could never match my worth
Sorry Mother Earth, polluted air with chemicals and dirt
These cars ain’t gonna buy and drive themselves
What the hell you think I work for, not to not explore and stay the same?
Sorry to the fans who say I changed, ’cause I did

For the “Sorry Not Sorry” music video, Tyler is joined by every alter-ego he’s taken on in his career before Tyler Baudelaire, the character for CMIYGL. As he raps about each misdeed he’s done and phase he’s had, his former personas remind fans of all Tyler’s been through.

Building excitement for CALL ME IF YOU GET LOSTThe Estate Sale, Monday’s “Dogtooth” and the newly-released “Sorry Not Sorry” give fans a glimpse of what they first missed out on nearly two years ago. But now, thankfully, tracks like these will finally get to see the light of day.
