It took an entire album of scrapped tunes and 1,150-mile move from Denver to Nashville for The Rouge, a four-piece rock band with folk roots, to find their sound. For Blurry, the guys teamed up with Adam Landry and Justin Collins — the production team behind Deer Tick’s Divine Providence — and emerged with a loose, rootsy EP that doubles as their debut for Atlantic Records. Don’t let the major-label tag fool you, though. Blurry was recorded without AutoTune or Pro-Tools, making The Rouge an old-school exception on a roster that includes modern artists like B.o.B. and Skrillex.

Later this spring, The Rouge will hit the road with Scott Weiland. Before serving as his support act, though, the guys are throwing all their weight behind their new single, “Cocaine Hero.” Watch an acoustic performance of the song below.

“It’s a song based around a feeling of injustice to yourself,” says singer Josh Vaught. “Knowing things only you can know… reliving tragedies only you can relive. Just wanting to see yourself through. Turning tragedy into romance.”
