Watch John Lennon’s Final Televised Performance, a Timeless Rendition of “Imagine”

It comes without question that anything pertaining to The Beatles consistently withstands the test of time and remains relevant. However, one of, if not the most consistently pertinent products from one of The Beatles is John Lennon’s monumental song “Imagine.”

The song is as decorated as possible, racking up a lengthy list of awards, nominations, and honors. Although, it isn’t the decorative hardware that keeps this song alive. Rather, it is the sentimental notions that can seamlessly be threaded into any given moment of history. Weirdly enough, the song has found an unorthodox avenue back into mainstream media through a TikTok post by teeharpo. Simply a reposting of one of Lennon’s live performances of “Imagine.” The comments remind folks of its everlasting ideas and influence.

“This Should be The National Anthem”

Commented by Spirit Walker, this quote for apparent reasons, garnered much attention and seemingly set the tone for the comment board. Maphisto wrote, “Written over 50 years ago and still resonates in today’s world.” Furthermore, Connie Pomeroy commented, “There is a Heaven—And this song comes the closest to being a HYMN in making Earth a place for it!”

Safe to say, but the song still invokes quite a reaction to this day and fills people with a majestic sense of optimism. Back to Spirit Walker’s quote, it was a line that not only incites much critical contemplation but also helps people “Imagine” what the song would accomplish as the national anthem. How would people change? Would it make a difference? Nobody truly can say. However, at its most essential point, the comment encompasses one of Lennon’s intended meanings for the song—an anthem instilling an ambition to strive for peace in the world.

Lennon’s Final Television Performance

Lennon’s performance in the video was his last-ever live television performance. Participating in a tribute show for Sir Lew Grade, Lennon busted out his most famous tune and went out with a bang. Just five years before his assassination in 1980, the televised performance reminded fans and viewers of the impact Lennon and “Imagine” had on the world.

Given the TikTok post, it is also quite evident how this song continues to play a focal role in mainstream culture to this day. In addition, what the post also articulates is the void that Lennon left upon his death. Seemingly, people believe if Lennon was still around peace would prevail. Regardless, the post of Lennon’s final television appearance is a mere reminder of his longevity and timeless influence.
