John Fogerty recently played a concert in Austin, Texas, in advance of participating in a special keynote event in conjunction with the 2025 SXSW (South by Southwest) Conference & Festivals. The concert was held Tuesday, March 11, at the Stubb’s Bar-B-Q restaurant and music venue.

For the show’s encore, Fogerty was joined by a special guest, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. Morello rocked out with Fogerty and his band on a pair of John’s classic Creedence Clearwater Revival songs—“Travelin’ Band” and “Proud Mary.”
You can check out fan-shot footage of both performances on YouTube. As seen in one clip, before kicking into “Travelin’ Band,” Fogerty tells the audience, “Well you didn’t think we were done now, did you? We got the fantastic Tom Morello helping us out. Thank you, Tom. Thanks for being here, buddy.”
Morello proceeded to rip some blistering solos, at one point playing his guitar with his teeth, à la Jimi Hendrix. Morello and Fogerty also stood toe to toe as they delivered dueling solos.
For the final song, “Proud Mary,” Morello helped out on rhythm guitar as Fogerty had the packed crowd singing along to the chorus.
Morello Interviewed Fogerty at the SXSW Keynote Event
The concert at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q wasn’t the only quality time Fogerty spent with Morello during his visit to Austin. Tom conducted an in-depth Q&A with the CCR legend as an SXSW keynote event on Wednesday, March 12.
The interview was held at the Austin Convention Center and was streamed live at SXSW’s YouTube channel. You can watch the entire hour-long conversation on demand on YouTube.
During the wide-ranging chat, Fogerty talked about the artists who influenced him, writing some of his famous songs, getting back the rights to his CCR songs, and much more.
John will turn 80 years old on May 28, and Morello asked him how he plans to celebrate the milestone birthday.
“Well, I want to be surrounded with my family and friends and fans and just have a great time, and show the world the joy that I’m feeling,” Fogerty said.
He then referenced the fact that he continues to tour, and that his sons Shane and Tyler are part of his band.
“I mean, this is the most perfect situation I could imagine. You know, this is heaven on earth to me,” Fogerty noted. “I love music, I love my family. My family is in the music and the music is in my family. It’s just the best feeling. … And I’m just so blessed and happy and appreciative that all these good things are coming my way. So that’ll be what I feel on that particular birthday, and actually every day of my life.”
Fogerty’s Upcoming 2025 Touring Plans
Fogerty’s next concert is scheduled for March 22 in Rancho Mirage, California. He also will be playing the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 24.
