Zach Top burst onto the country music scene in 2024 with his debut album Cold Beer & Country Music. The album introduced the Washington native’s ‘90s-inspired sound to countless listeners. Fans across the country have been cranking his music since the album dropped. Now, they’re flocking to venues to see him perform their favorite songs—and some unreleased tunes—live and in person.

Last Friday (January 17) Top and his band took the stage at Ballpark Village in St. Louis, Missouri. While there, he played songs from his debut album and introduced fans to some new tracks including one seemingly inspired by the late great Jimmy Buffett. Watch him perform the beach vibe breakup song below.

Top exhibits some classic wordplay in the new song. The chorus includes the tag I don’t give a flip flop / If I ever see that beach again, revealing the vibe and theme of the song.
Zach Top Proves There Is a Market for Traditional Country Music
There’s no denying that Zach Top took a risk with his throwback sound. Songs like “I Never Lie,” “Use Me,” and the rest of Cold Beer & Country Music fly in the face of the current industry standard. However, he has proven that fans are hungry for authentic country music.
Currently, Top boasts more than 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Most of the tracks on his 2024 album have garnered tens of millions of streams. Even the least popular track on the record—“Ain’t That a Heartbreak”—has nearly 3 million streams.
However, Top’s streaming numbers are only part of the story. Most of the dates on his current Cold Beer & Country Music tour sold out almost immediately. Then, Top added more dates which also quickly sold out.
“Everything sold out so dang fast. I think we underestimated the demand there was for tickets,” Top said on the latest episode of the Rodeo Time podcast. “It almost kind of got some people a little angry about it. It’s like, we didn’t give enough people a chance to come see me,” he added. “Folks don’t need to worry,” he assured fans. “This isn’t a one-and-done thing. We’re going to be around for 40 years, hopefully. Cross your fingers.”
