Little did Jack Blocker know that his audition song—an original titled “I Was Wrong”—would come to define his entire American Idol run. For judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, his viral facial expressions overshadowed his not-unimpressive vocals. At the urging of holdout judge Luke Bryan, and the entire Idol crew, Blocker got a second go at his dreams. He held on all the way to finale night, ultimately finishing third behind season 22 winner Abi Carter and runner-up Will Moseley. Despite not winning, Blocker claimed a significant victory when Perry apologized for ever doubting his talent. Here’s what the 26-year-old graphic artist from Dallas, Texas, has been up to since the show ended.

Jack Blocker Hits the Road Post-‘American Idol’
A scan of “resurrected” American Idol fan favorite Jack Blocker’s Instagram page reveals this impressive mustache.
More than that, however, fans can see that the folk singer-songwriter is still pushing forward in his music career. Blocker has a series of gigs scheduled for this spring, the next of which takes place Wednesday, March 12, at the Goldfield Trading Post in Roseville, California.
Among a handful of headlining shows, Blocker is also touring with country artists Drake Milligan and Justin Wells. Previously appearing on America’s Got Talent, Milligan has also performed with CMA Award winner Cody Johnson. Meanwhile, Wells has released three roots-rock albums, releasing the most recent, Cynthiana, in February.
Is New Music on the Way?
Since nearly winning American Idol, Jack Blocker and wife Georgia have moved to Nashville, Tennessee. According to online reports, the “Big Jefe” crooner is currently writing and producing his next record, with plans to release and tour the record throughout the upcoming year.
In the meantime, Blocker has kept social media followers’ attention by sharing frequent glimpses into his original material. Last month, he debuted a new tune, “Saguaro,” live in Dallas.
Undoubtedly, Jack Blocker did not squander his second chance at stardom. In the process, he remained true to himself and gained a lifelong “good friend” in Katy Perry.
“Once we got to LA and the shows were live, and she’d come up after a show, and she’d kind of gimme a look, like, ‘What are you doing?’” he told USA Today last June. “And then at the end … she came up to me and she was like, ‘What happens if you win this thing?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know. I have no idea. I haven’t gotten that far yet.’”
