Wife of Weezer Bassist Scott Shriner Scores Win in LAPD Shooting Case

In April 2025, rock band Weezer made headlines when Jillian Lauren, wife of bassist Scott Shriner, was allegedly involved in a standoff with Los Angeles police. Lauren, 51, is facing gun assault charges after authorities say she ignored an order from police to drop her gun. This week, a Los Angeles County judge granted the best-selling author’s request for more time to review video footage of the shooting that left her wounded in her own backyard.

“We’re still working our way through the voluminous discovery,” Georgina Wakefield, Lauren’s defense attorney, said during a Wednesday (June 18) court appearance. “It’s a lot of video camera footage. It’s taking a long time to review. We’re also evaluating potential motions we intend to file.”

Although initially skeptical, Judge Susan J. DeWitt ultimately scheduled a follow-up hearing for July 22. Wakefield wanted more time to comb through the evidence before the judge hears the first live testimony in the contentious case.

Police Say Wife of Weezer’s Scott Shriner Fired the First Shot

On April 8, the California Highway Patrol responded to a three-car crash on the 134 Freeway around 3 p.m.. Three men in one of the vehicles opted to flee the scene, with one stripping to his boxers and jumping into a nearby pool. Attempting to blend in as police swarmed the area in the Eagle Rock neighborhood west of Pasadena, the suspect even watered the person’s garden.

Cops say they followed the suspect to the backyard of a home on Waldo Place. There, they found a woman—later identified as Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer’s Scott Shriner—holding a pistol in a nearby yard.

According to a news release, the officers ordered Lauren to drop the handgun numerous times, to no avail. When she allegedly pointed her weapon at the officers, they fired in response, striking her once in the arm.

Lauren has pleaded not guilty to firing a gun with gross negligence and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. LAPD found a 9-mm Glock and spent shell casings outside her home.

In a 911 call released by police, Lauren is heard explaining what happened from her perspective. “I had my gun, and he said, ‘Put down that gun. Put down that gun.’ I said, ‘Put down your f—ing gun.’ And then he shot me,” she said in the call, according to Rolling Stone. “There are three men out at the other side of this fence here.”

If convicted, Lauren faces up to nine years in prison for the assault charge and a maximum of three years on the other.
