You Might Not Love Them, but These 3 “Cringey” Classics Still Peaked at No. 1

Even in a world ruled by data analytics, pinpointing the listening tendencies of audiences is still difficult. It’s not impossible, but sometimes people are just too unpredictable, and where this unpredictability shines is on the charts. Over the years, there have been songs universally considered “cringey” by the masses. Yet, cringey or not, these three songs still graced the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Funny enough, those same haters likely helped these tunes climb up the charts—hate listening is a real thing, after all. All that being said, here are three somewhat cringey classics to peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen

When “Call Me Maybe” was released in 2011, it took the world by storm. It touched every inch of the Earth and crawled itself into the head of every single person who heard so much as a note of it. Which, by the way, is an incredibly impressive feat. Following its 2010 release, Carly Rae Jepsen’s monster hit peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for a total of nine weeks.

Now, you might disagree with this take, but it seems a large portion of people who grew up listening to this song deem it as “cringey” because they heard it one too many times. Though Jepsen’s classic is still a classic, and she’s become a world-renowned musician because of it.

“All About The Bass” by Meghan Trainor

Don’t get us wrong, Meghan Trainor is a phenomenal musician with global acclaim. Though when it comes to her hit song, “All About The Bass,” it seems folks maybe listened to it a little too much. Following its release, Trainor’s hit song peaked at No. 1 and remained there for eight consecutive weeks.

Trainor is one of the most notable vocalists of the 21st century, and her other phenomenal hit songs include “Made You Look” and “Me Too.” Though, when it comes to “All About The Bass,” there is just something that seemingly gets the people a bit fired up.

“Party Rockin’” by LMFAO

LMFAO’s 2011 hit is conducive to a great time. However, it seems its upbeat energy is the very thing that has made the masses believe the song to be cringey. Nonetheless, it was still highly successful, as it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks. Needless to say, it was one of the party anthems for the ‘2010s generation.

“Party Rockin’” was the very song that launched LMFAO into the mainstream, and to this day, people still remember them because of it. So, even if the song has been deemed “cringey,” it still was and is a successful hit single.
