2024 was a great year for country music as a whole. However, few artists had bigger years than Zach Top. He released his debut full-length album Cold Beer & Country Music and fans across the country took notice. His throwback sound, sharp songwriting, and timeless voice made him a favorite among listeners everywhere and an artist to keep a close eye on in the coming year. Tonight, he helped the New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash crowd end the year on a high note with some good old-fashioned country music.

There was plenty of cold beer flowing in the audience as Top took the stage to bring the rest of the equation—country music. While on the stage, he showed everyone that the genre is in good hands with his boot-stomping performance of “Sounds Like the Radio.”
Zach Top Proves People Love Traditional Country with “I Never Lie”
Zach Top didn’t plan to release “I Never Lie” as a single. Then, it went viral on TikTok and he and his time gave the fans what they wanted. The track went to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and No. 24 on the Country Airplay chart. It was his first top 10 hit and his first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100. The track went to No. 58 on the all-genre survey.
“It may be the countriest song on the album,” Top told Billboard earlier this year. “It sticks out and there’s nothing but steel guitar on there—you haven’t heard a song like that, sonically, in a long time,” he said of the throwback breakup banger.
“I think people have had an appetite for my kind of country for a little while, and we’re getting a dose of it,” he said about why he thinks the song is so popular. “Songs like ‘Sounds Like the Radio’ and ‘Cold Beer & Country Music,’ you would expect to be hits because they’re up-tempo. This song goes in the face of what’s out there right now,” he added.
Top has already shared new music since releasing Cold Beer & Country Music. So, fans can likely expect more in the coming months.
