The last year has been somewhat of a whirlwind for Zach Top. Back in April 2024, he released his album Cold Beer & Country Music, which featured hit songs like “I Never Lie.” And adding to his growing stardom, he recently won the ACM New Male Artist of the Year Award. Thrilled about his accomplishments, Top crossed off another milestone when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for the first time. And when taking the stage, he offered a classic performance of “I Never Lie.”

While not new for Fallon to welcome singers to his show, Top standing under the spotlight offered him the chance to reach a much larger audience. And knowing what the moment could do for his career, the country star proved his place in the genre. Written alongside Tim Nichols and Carson Chamberlain, “I Never Lie” focused on the story of a man who was forced to come to terms with his ex-girlfriend starting a new relationship. Although heartbreaks can be emotional, the man seemed at peace as he claimed, “Wish I could say I miss you, but you know I never lie.”
After the performance, Top received a mountain of praise from fans, who commented, “I’ve had his music on constantly for the last three years now, but love Cold Beer & Country Music. I can’t wait to hear new music this year!” Another person added, “Your videos always stand out from the crowd. I appreciate your originality and the effort you put into each video. Keep up the good work.” And for one fan, they declared, “The man saving country music.”

Zach Top Only Wants To Sing For A Living
With Top appearing to bring back the classic sound of country, he explained how surprised he was that the song became a hit. He said on the Spout Podcast, “ Never Lie,’ it’s kind of been the thing off the record that’s really poked its head up…It’s funny. That’s either favorite or second favorite song on the record for me, but I wasn’t expecting that to be the one that would kind of take off and be the ‘hit,’ so to speak, off the thing.”
As for his recent win at the ACM Awards, Top thanked the fans for their continued support as revealed he wanted nothing else but to sing for a living. “I’ve always wanted to just play and sing for a living, and I get to do that now and it’s cool to be able to get a little trophy every now and then to let us know that we’re doing good doing it. So thank you so much, this is beautiful.”
