For fans who grew up with country music playing in the home, they definitely remember singers like George Strait, Keith Whitley, and Randy Travis. It just so happened that those three singers unknowingly inspired Zach Top to pursue a career in country music. Having inspired countless people over the decades, Top not only released his debut album Cold Beer & Country Music, but he seemed to shine a light on the classic sound of the genre. Striking a chord with fans, the country singer recently discussed his popularity and what fans were really starving for.

Speaking with Taste of Country Nights, Top opened up about his sudden rise in country music. Only breaking into the industry a few years ago, he won the New Male Artist of the Year award at the Academy of Country Music Awards. And he also helmed his Cold Beer & Country Music Tour. But when it came to his growing fanbase, Top insisted, “I think that people are starving for stuff that’s real, that isn’t filtered and prettied up.”
With country music going through different eras over the decades, the genre once focused on themes of partying, trucks, lost loves, and hunting. Wanting to strip away the pleasantries, Top said, “The only thing I’ve ever done on TikTok is sit there with my acoustic guitar and play and sing for ’em, and there’s no lip-synching and no hanky-panky with it all.”
Zach Top Confused Why Fans Love His Mustache
Focusing on his contributions to classic country, Top was a little confused why fans loved his cowboy attire and robust mustache. “I think people appreciate it, and I think it stands out a little bit. And I would say that would be my best guess why it’s worked. I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure glad it has.”
And speaking of fans, fans praised Top when he released his new song “I Never Lie.” Again, appearing to come straight from the golden age, comments included, “This is the kind of country music that’s been missing for way too long—pure, honest, and a real throwback to the golden age. Zach Top is the real deal, and I’m excited to see where he takes country music from here.” Another person added, “When I heard this on the radio, I thought I was listening to a song from the 90’s. Thanks for bringing us back to a time when country was at its best.”
