Jason Isbell To Release The Nashville Sound This Summer

Videos by American Songwriter

Jason Isbell will release his new album The Nashville Sound on June 16. Isbell broke the news this morning on local Nashville rock station Lightning 100.

The album, which was produced by Dave Cobb at RCA Studio A in Nashville, is credited to Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. The 400 Unit is Isbell’s long-time rock and roll band and features Derry deBorja (keyboards), Chad Gamble (drums), Jimbo Hart (bass), Amanda Shires (fiddle) and Sadler Vaden (guitar).

In addition to the album announcement, Isbell also revealed tour dates for 2017 (see below), including a five-night fun at the Ryman Auditorium in October.

Isbell’s new record is rumored to be a more rocking affair than his last two efforts, which, if true, would make The Nashville Sound a somewhat ironic title, given its association with the smooth sounds to come out of Music City in the ’50s. Chet Atkins also once joked that the “Nashville sound” was the sound of money jingling in his pocket.
