Bob Dylan is no stranger to a solid cover song. That being said, there are quite a few different country songs out there that we believe Bob Dylan could take on with ease, and we’d love to hear them on a studio record. Let’s take a look at a few classic country songs we think Bob Dylan should cover!

1. “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones
Bob Dylan has covered some of the saddest country songs out there, like “1913 Massacre” by Woodie Guthrie. Dylan can definitely take on a tragic tale or two. So, we think he’d be a perfect match for what many believe to be the saddest country song of all time, “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones.
2. “Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash
Alright, Bob Dylan already covered this one. In our defense, he’s dedicated whole albums to just covers alone. But we have to mention “Ring Of Fire” on this list simply because Dylan’s older voice would sound gorgeous on a new cover of this Johnny Cash classic.
Dylan originally covered the song back in 1996 for the film Feeling Minnesota. But with a couple of decades of age to his voice, he could really put a gritty spin on this song today.
3. “I Fall To Pieces” by Patsy Cline
One of the late great Patsy Cline’s greatest recorded works, “I Fall To Pieces” is a classic song about heartbreak, regret, and struggling to move forward after the end of a love affair. Dylan has famously cornered the market on these types of themes, so we think he could cover this country classic beautifully.
4. “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver
This ode to Appalachia and the American countryside may seem like an odd choice for a man from Duluth, Minnesota. However, Dylan’s unique vocal style could put a new twist on this country classic. “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver is also very easy to sing; ask anyone who has done karaoke ever.
5. “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” by Willie Nelson
This is one of those country songs that Bob Dylan would be amazing at, simply because he and Willie Nelson have so much in common. They’ve enjoyed long careers, refuse to retire from touring, and are a couple of the greatest songwriters in their respective genres. The pair have also toured together, most extensively during the 2024 Outlaw Music Festival Tour. We think Dylan would do “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” justice.
